Mayor - Hal Marx





















Mayor Hal Marx is a 1991 Graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, where he received a bachelor’s degree in political science, with a minor in history. He earned a Master of Education degree from William Carey University in 2002.


Mayor Marx spent six years as a journalist for a daily newspaper in Laurel, including two years as the paper’s managing editor. From 1998 until 2009, he taught social studies at Petal High School, with the specialty area of Advanced Placement American Government and Economics.


He was elected as the sixth Mayor of Petal in May, 2009 and was re-elected in 2013.  He and his wife, Mindy, have three sons, Brian, Brett, and Nathan. His parents are Harold and Barbara Marx, also of Petal.


Mayor Marx is committed to making Petal a safe and affordable place to live and raise a family.
