Alderman at Large - William King
Lt. Col. William H. King IV resides in Petal, and has been a lifelong resident. He is currently assigned to Joint Force Headquarters and is attached to the 184th Rear Detachment headquartered in Hattiesburg, MS. He has served as the Director of Logistics for the past year at Camp Shelby, MS. Currently, he is back at his job at the RSMS (Readiness Sustainment Maintenance Site) at Camp Shelby, where he has worked for the past 11 years.
Prior to deploying with the 155th Heavy Brigade Combat Team, he was moved to the Brigade S-4 shop and served as the logistical officer throughout the deployment, Operation Iraqi Freedom 9.2, in 2009.
From 1986-1988, he attended Jones Junior College before continuing his education at the University of Southern Miss where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. In 1993, he graduated from Harrison County Police Academy where he went on to serve as a police officer in Petal, Miss until 2000.
King’s role at Camp Shelby is to manage the Readiness Sustainment Maintenance Site for the National Guard Bureau located on Camp Shelby. Its main purpose is to rebuild, maintain, and fill on-hand shortages of Army vehicles for all National Guard units. He currently oversees a $26 million dollar budget and 210 full time employees.
King has been married to his high school sweetheart, Penny King, for 22 years. He has two daughters, Kristen West, 24 and Pashance King, 17. He also has a 3-year-old grandson and 6 month old granddaughter.
King is also involved in his local community. He is a chairman of the Petal parks and recreation committee where he makes recommendations to the city council for future projects. He and his family currently attend Petal Harvey Baptist Church in Petal.
