The Petal Parks & Recreation Department is responsible for implementing and conducting activities for the growing population of Petal, as well as the maintenance of facilities within our parks jurisdiction. Our mission is to provide the guidance and focus to fulfill the recreational needs of the citizens by identifying both physical and administrative goals. Our administrative goal are directed toward communication in increasing public awareness of existing facilities and programs offered by our Department.
Recreation Director Tom Hardges leads the department charged with providing Petal citizens with a range of recreational activities and with upkeep of the city’s recreational facilities.
Hinton Park (formally Relay Park) located behind the Civic Center on S. Main St offers 12.5 acres of recreational activities: a playground, walking track, 4 covered picnic tables, a pavillion and restroom facilities. The picnic areas are available on a first come first serve basis. The pavillion is available first come first serve unless previously reserved. To reserve the pavillion please call City Hall at (601)545-1776. Pets are not allowed at the park or on the walking track.
Pavillion Fees: Deposit: $20.00 – refundable if clean. Rental: $10.00 per hour with a two hour minimum and a maximum of 4 hours. Tables & Chairs Set Up Fee: Additional $30.00 Lights Fee: Additional $10.00 (flat rate)
Veterans Walk of Honor: located between the Petal Civic Center and the Petal Pavilion at Hinton Park. You have the opportunity to honor and memorialize a veteran by placing a brick paver engraved with their name on the Veterans Walk of Honor. Robert E Russell Sports Complex (City Park) is located at 605 Hillcrest Loop, across from the Petal YMCA.
Complex A offers 25 acres of recreation activities: 3 t-ball fields, 2 baseball fields, concession stand with press box, restrooms, tennis court, walking track, and batting cages.
Complex B is an extension of Complex A. It includes: 4 youth baseball fields, concession stand with press boxes, restrooms, playground (Friendly Park), batting cages, soccer fields, skate park, recreation office, gazebos with tables and benches, and sidewalk around playground with benches.
Complex C (old Optimist Park) is now the home of Petal Dixie Softball Association (Fastpitch). Has 3 softball fields, concession stand, and restrooms.

Emma D. Hill Park is located on McInnis Street with 2 acres of recreation activities such as basketball court, swings, slides, grills, and tables.
Petal Dog Park is located behind A&B cycles on Dawson Cutoff Road. It includes 1 acre of dog friendly recreational activities.
